900,469. Copy-milling. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 26, 1961 [April 28, 1960], No. 14937/60. Class 83 (3). A cam-milling machine comprises a rotary work-holder 6, a milling cutter 1 movable radially of the work, a rotary generating shaft 9 at right-angles to the direction of cutter movement and carrying an eccentrically-adjustable cam 12 to move the cutter, and gearing 11 between the work and cam to vary their speed ratio. The work 7 is rotated by an electric motor. The work head 10 can be adjusted through 90 degrees so that face cams may be machined. With a circular cam 12, a sinusoidal curve is produced on the work. A scale 19 indicates the adjustment of the cam on its eccentric mounting. The cam follower 13 can be moved upwardly on the cutter slide 2 to enable cam adjustments while the slide 2 is locked in position. The gearing 11 may include a clutch. In a modification, the cam 12 is carried on a radially-adjustable slide.
