Abstract

Mahew and similar glucose and lactic acid containing beverages are made by incorporating ground, uncooked whole wheat or other grain or malted cereal meal and a meal of a puffed cereal exemplified by maize, wheat, oats, barley and millet into water, and allowing the mixture to sour on standing at atmospheric temperature. Sugar, e.g. molasses, and protein containing material may be incorporated in the beverages. According to an example, a preparation of 10 lb. of finely powdered puffed maize and 1 lb. of unsifted ground whole wheat meal is mixed into 10 gal. of water and the mixture is allowed to stand for a few hours.
