[Also in Group XXXI] A tractor change-speed mechanism comprises a torque amplifier arranged selectively to provide direct and indirect drive to a change-speed mechanism, means for providing slow or creeping speed, a mowing drive and a power take-off shaft arranged to be selectively driven at a speed proportional to engine speed or at a speed proportional to the ground speed of the tractor and is characterized in that a set of coaxial gears is rotatably mounted on an axial extension of the output shaft of the change-speed mechanism and the slow or creeping speed, the mowing drive and the indirect drive to the change-speed mechanism are derived from the coaxial gears. As shown, the input shaft 1, connected to an internal-combustion engine through a clutch mechanism (not shown), is provided with a gear 34 meshing with the gear-set 30 comprising, in a unitary structure, the gears 31, 32, 33. The gear 31 drives a gear 35 from which, through a belt-and-pulley drive, the mowing drive is taken. A torque amplifier gear-wheel 36, which is slidably mounted upon splines on a countershaft 14 rotatably mounted upon the shaft 1, may be brought to mesh with gear 33 to provide a reduction gear through which the shaft 14 is driven, the shaft 14 driving gears 11, 12 and 13 which may be selectively brought to mesh with the gears 7, 8 and 9, respectively, providing a change-speed gear arrangement driving a shaft 6 provided at its end with a bevel gear connection to a bevel gear 27 through which the tractor wheels are driven. The gear 36 is also provided with internal teeth 37 which may be brought to mesh with corresponding teeth upon the gear 34 providing a direct drive to the shaft 14. The creep speed may be taken from the gear 32 through a gear 41 slidable upon splines upon a shaft 39 in response to movement of a lever 42, and the gear 9. A gear-wheel 10 may be connected to a reversing-gear. Coaxial with the shafts 1 and 14 is a shaft 17 which drives, through gears 20 and 22, an output shaft 21 and, through bevels 20<SP>1</SP> and 23, a friction disc 24 and the transverse shaft upon which it is mounted. The shaft 17 may be driven either from the shaft 6 through gears 26 and 25 in which case the output shaft is synchronous with the driving-speed or from shaft 1 at constant speed by moving the member 25 so that it drivingly connects splines upon the shaft 1 with splines upon the shaft 17. A gear shift lever 16 is provided.
