Abstract

848,855. Batteries. LICENCIA TALALMANYOKAT ERTEKESITO VALLALAT. Jan. 30, 1957 [Feb. 1, 1956], No. 3303/57. Class 53 The shelf life of a primary or secondary cell is increased by. coating at least one of the electrodes and/or the depolarizer with a polymer having a structural unit containing at least one oxygen bridge according to the formula X-O-Y where X and Y are Group IV or V elements capable of forming a stable organic polymer and containing in addition hydrophobic organic radicals. Polymers in which both X and Y are silicon are excluded and form the subject-matter of Specification 815,094. X and Y are preferably carbon or one of the metals germanium, tin, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, niobium, tantalum, antimony, bismuth or vanadium or X may be carbon and Y one of the metals. The polymer may be applied to the electrode inthepartially polymerised condition (by painting, dipping or spraying) and then cured. In the case of a depolariser bobbin for a primary cell, the depolarizing compound or the carbon or only part of these may be coated. Several specific polymers are referred to in the description.
