Abstract
848,550. Engine assisted cycles. BERNARD, J Jan. 24, 1957 [March 6, 1956], No. 2540/57. Classes 79(2) and 79(3). [Also in Group XXXV] In a motorized cycle having a motor 1 mounted forwardly of the pedal crankshaft 9, the flywheel 14 and output drive member 15 of the motor are disposed at the side opposite to the chainwheel 11, and a generator 16 supplying the ignition current is disposed on the same side of the cycle as the chainwheel 11. The output drive member 15 is operatively connected to a pair of wheels 12, 13 rotatably mounted on the shaft 9. The drive member 15 may be connected with the flywheel 14 through an automatic centrifugal clutch. The generator 16 may also supply lighting current. The motor 1 is secured to the cycle frame by means of a pivot 4 and a bolt 8 passing through a plate assembly 6. The generator 16 has a detachable fluid-tight cover (not shown). In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the output drive member 15 is arranged between the motor 1 and flywheel 14.
