847,513. Valves. WALDENMAIER, H. W., [trading as WALDENMAIER ERBEN, J. E. H. [Firm of]]. Jan. 31, 1957 [Sept. 1, 1956], No. 3365/57. Class 135. A diaphragm check valve comprises a housing 7 including a bridge 4 projecting into the flow path and providing a valve seat, and a deformable diaphragm 3 having a depending lip 2 which, in the closed position of the valve and unflexed condition of the diaphragm, abuts against and seals across the whole width of the bridge partially embracing that member, but which can be lifted off the seat by fluid pressure to permit normal flow through the valve, there being at least one aperture 8 in the diaphragm whereby back flow of fluid which has passed the bridge is enabled to act on the diaphragm to urge the lip back on to the seat. Three modified diaphragms having openings 8 of different shapes and sizes are described (Figs. 3 to 7, not shown), it being stated that the opening or openings can be related to desired flow characteristics of the valve and to the particular fluid intended to be passed therethrough. The diaphragm may be provided with a reinforcement 5 e.g. of fabric or spring wire, this being omitted from the region of the lips 2. A cover 1 of the valve may be transparent or may have a sight glass connected thereto, to permit flow or pressure conditions to be observed.
