847,156. Dry shavers. ROTARY. Jan. 9, 1958 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 887/58. Class 131 [Also in Group XXXV] A dry shaver comprises a casing housing an electromagnetic motor, a protective grid, and a cutter mounted on a support carrying magnetic means forming part of the circuit of the motor and rocked about an axis parallel to the grid by energisation of the electromagnet. As shown, cutters 15, 16 diverge from a sleeve 14, rockable to an extent limited by lugs 19 on a spindle 13, and are urged by springs 20 towards the stamped metal grid 21 which has reinforcing ribs 29. Shanks 12 of the spindle 13 are received in tubular guides 11 of a tube 7 of magnetic material pivotally mounted by self-lubricating rings 8 on a fixed spindle 9. Laminated magnetic strips 6 are secured to the tube 7 and have arcuate faces 6a co-operating with pole-pieces 5 also provided with arcuate surfaces 5a to rock the tube 7 and oscillate the cutters when A.C. current energises the core 3 and windings 4 supported on a U-shaped metal cage 2. Springs 24, 25 seated on a ball 23 mounted on a rod 22 connecting the laminations 6 control the oscillation of the cutters. The grid 21 is secured to the cage 2 by rods 33, bent over ends of the cage providing cutting combs 34 which cooperate with cutters 35 to form a long hair cutter.
