Class 131 [Also in Group XXXV] The cutting members of a dry shaver comprise a fixed, perforated member and a<SP> </SP> curved perforated belt member connected at each end to drive member for reciprocation lengthwise in contact with the fixed member. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a perforated steel belt 12 is reciprocated on the outer surface of a fixed cutting member 10 mounted on a handgrip 11 and having slots 10a inclined to the axis of reciprocation. The ends of the belt are secured to an armature 15 pivoted on a spindle 16, and having pole faces 15a, 15b held by springs 18, 19 out of the mid-plane of a a yoke 13 until the poles are attracted by the passage of alternating current through energizing coils 14. In a modification, shown in Fig. 5, a fixed guard 23 with circular apertures is interposed between the skin and a perforated reciprocated belt 22 supported by a bridge 20 having large, closely-spaced apertures 20a and made of sintered graphited bronze. Cut hair escapes through the open ends of the shaver and the edges of the cutting members at one end of the shaver are castellated at 10b to provide a moustache trimmer. Mechanical driving means or a conventional electric motor can be used to reciprocate the belt member.
