Abstract

846,529. Cables. PIRELLI S.p.A. April 28, 1958 [July 11, 1957], No. 13372/58. Class 36. A carrier-frequency telephone cable having high attenuation of near-end cross-talk with transmission in both directions on the same frequency band comprises any number of startype quads and/or pairs with an even number of these quads and/or pairs provided with an electromagnetic screen wrapped with insulating tape, each insulated screen bearing on that adjacent to it and any unscreened quads or pairs being located on opposite sides of the screened quads. In Fig. 2 the quads 1, 2 are each provided with a screen S of longitudinal copper tapes wrapped with one or more steel tapes and an insulating wrapping of paper or plastics. The unscreened quads 3, 4 are laid up on opposite sides of the plane containing the axes of the abutting screened quads. Fig. 3 shows a cable having four screened quads 5-8 and five unscreened pairs 9-13. The conductors of the screened quads may be insulated with expanded polyethylene and those of the unscreened quads insulated with paper or expanded polyethylene.
