Abstract

846,104. Moulding and wrapping toffee &c. TURNER, R. Oct. 26, 1956 [July 28, 1955], No. 21829/56. Class 87(2). Warm toffee issues from a batch feeder 1 and is shaped into a strip by pairs of opposed rollers 2, 3, one of which is flanged. Several strips may be formed side by side. The toffee may be shaped by extension and deposited on the conveyer between spacing members. The strip toffee is conveyed by a belt 4 through a tunnel 5 wherein cooling air is circulated by fans 6, the refrigerator being preferably located between the runs of the belt. The strip, thus normalised, is impressed by one or both pairs of rollers 8, 9. The patterned strip is subdivided by blades 12 on an endless moving band 11 interacting with blades 14 on a rotating disc 13, in addition to which there may be a grooved roller cooperating with the blades 12. The blades may be carried on the disc or band only, the other being plain. A reheating unit 22 may condition the toffee for cutting. For round strips the surface of the belt may be longitudinally grooved. The pieces of toffee are fed to a wrapping machine 10.
