Abstract

845,387. Can rims; container closures completed by cement &c. LANGE, K. E., and LUKOWSKI, G. F. May 30, 1958 [June 11, 1957; Sept. 10, 1957], No. 17286/58. Classes 66 and 125(3). A preserve can and lid, both made of a synthetic plastics material, e.g. polyolefines, for resisting temperatures of 80‹ to 126‹C, are joined by a tongue 10 fitting in a groove 7, the parts being united by adhesion or welding e.g. high frequency welding. Alternative tongue and groove formations, Figs. 5-6, 7, and 8, (not shown) may be effected. An insertion 24, Fig. 11, of the same material as the can may be provided and the casing 4 of the can pierced by a hole 21, so that when the can has been filled and the lid sealed, the air therein may be evacuated via the hole 21, the insertion 24 ensuring that the evacuation space round the hole is clear. The hole 21 is then sealed in vacuo by means of a welding wire of the same material as the can and a foil of plastics material is stuck across the area of the seal.
