Abstract

855,313. Packages ; paper and like bags. PLATEL, C., and VITHERM. March 3, 1958 [March 8, 1957; Oct. 2, 1957], No. 6796/58. Classes 94(1) and 94(2). A vacuum package comprises a bag closed at one end by parallel welds 3, 4, the inner weld stopping short of the bag edge to give communication between the bag interior and the space between the welds, the other end of this space being connected to atmosphere. The latter connection may be effected by stopping the outer weld short of the bag edge, as at 6, or puncturing the bag wall, Fig. 4 (not shown). The bag, substantially closed at one end by the welds 3, 4 is filled and then closed by a weld 7. The package is placed in a vacuum chamber and thereafter is kept sealed by external air pressure. Eyelets, not shown, may be provided in a corner of the package to suspend it within the vacuum chamber or autoclave, or to locate it if subjected to an immersing process.
