Abstract

845,144. Self-propelled missiles. SHORT BROS. & HARLAND Ltd. Feb 2, 1959 [Feb. 25, 1958], No. 6052/58. Class 9(2). [Also in Group XXXLII]. A missile as described in Specification 845,142 has a compartment 14 for housing electronic control apparatus in discrete component sections 18 surrounding an axial chamber 15 containing a battery 16. The chamber 15 has a cylindrical sheet metal wall 19 from which resilient tongues 191 are pressed out at circumferentially and axially spaced positions, the free ends of the tongues being within the cylinder and intermediate portions 1911 being bowed outwardly. Thus when the battery 16 is placed in the chamber 15, the tongues 191 force the sections 18 against the outer wall of the compartment 14, so that heat generated within the apparatus is dissipated through the skin of the missile. Alternatively, springs may be arranged in the battery compartment in such a way that, when the ends of the compartment are screwed into position, the springs are compressed and thrust the components 18 against the wall of the missile.
