Abstract

844,886. Glaceramic printed electrical circuits. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Nov. 8, 1957 [Nov. 15, 1956], No. 34903/57. Class 37. [Also in Group XXIII] A composite glaceramic body (the material of which exists initially as a glass but is converted to a rigid skeleton or network of finely divided inorganic crystals with or without a glass matrix by the photothermal or thermal methods of Specifications 752,243 or 829,447) is produced by interfusing the meeting surfaces of at least two preformed component glaceramic bodies arranged in juxtaposed relation by heating to a temperature below the deformation point of the material. Conversion to the glaceramic state and interfusion may be brought about in a single heat treatment. As shown in relation to submerged printed electrical circuits, in a single element circuit (Figs. 1 and 2) three glaceramic panels 20, 22 and 24 having substantially identical dimensions are provided with channels 26, 28 and 30 which when taken together define a passageway corresponding to a circuit element 32. The three panels are stacked in the indicated order and sealed by interfusion into an integral supporting body 34 with element 32 deposited in channels 26, 28 and 30 either before or after the sealing process depending on the melting temperature of the element. Subsequently molten solder is drawn into the channels. Multiple element circuitry involving cross-overs is also illustrated (Figs. 6 to 13 not shown).
