Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the joint strength similar to that of the parent metal without impressing high pressure, by applying the diffusion welding to the titanium parts interposing a diffusion alloy layer consisting of specified composition of Zr and Cu. CONSTITUTION:The titanium parts 1 to be welded are overlapped each other, and an alloy foil as the insert metal 2 is interposed between the facing surfaces of these parts 1; hereupon, the alloy foil 2 has a composition consisting of 32-88 wt % Zr, and the balance of copper puls inevitable impurities. These materials are heated and held under the beta transition temperature of titanium for long hours with- in a vacuum atmosphere. No other pressure that the own weight of the titanium parts 1 is impressed on the facing surface. After that, the parts 1 are cooled in a furnace, and are joined by the diffusion welding through the diffusion alloy layer.
