844,548. Rotary tilting furnaces. DEMAG A.G. Feb. 4, 1958 [Nov. 11, 1957], No. 3683/58. Class 51 (2). A rotary drum furnace 1 of the type mounted in a tilting cradle 3 rocked by an hydraulic cylinder 4 is provided at the charging end 6 with a cover 7 for use when the furnace is tilted to discharge through opening 5 or through a tap hole (not shown). The cover 7 may be carried by an hydraulic ram 12 on a truck 10 by which it is held against the drum and thereafter secured in position. The drum may be rotated about a vertical axis in turn between a charging device, a waste gases duct and the truck carrying the cover, Fig. 2 (not shown). The truck may be replaced by a fixed support for the covercarrying ram.
