Class 44 In a desk or cabinet or like article of furniture having a plurality of drawers 11, locking means for said drawers comprises catch members 12 secured one to each drawer, a spring influenced slidable locking bar 14 having a projection 15 in respect of and for engagement with each drawer catch member and a member 20 engaged operatively with said locking bar for moving same axially against its spring resistance so as to disengage its projections from the catch members of the drawers and said operating member being adapted for movement by the turning of a key in a lock 24 fitted at the side of the article wherein the drawers are located. The locking bar 14 is guided in its movement by support plates 16 which are formed with elongated apertures 16a engaged by screws 17 of the locking bar. The member 20 has an inclined cam slot 20a and is slidably associated with the upper support plate 16 which is provided with horizontal guide flanges 16c. The slot 20a engages the upper screw 17 of the locking bar, 14. The member 20 has a lateral projection 21 which is linked by a rod 22 with a crank arm 23 of the lock 24; thus turning of the key in the lock causes angular displacement of the crank arm 23 and thus movement of the member 20. The member 20 is so shaped that it is permitted a predetermined amount of pivotal movement between the flanges 16c so that when a drawer is pushed home a cam surface 12b on the catch member 12 can depress the locking bar 14, this being permitted by the pivotal movement of the member 20.
