Abstract
Cross-linked polymers are prepared by intimately incorporating in a hydrocarbon olefine polymer, particularly polyethylene or polypropylene, a polyfunctional monomer selected from divinyl benzene, the mono-di-tri-and tetraethylene glycol diacrylates and dimethacrylates, vinyl acrylate, vinyl methacrylate, allyl acrylate, allyl methacrylate, the divinyl ether of diethylene glycol, diallyl maleate, itaconate and malonate, diallyl benzene phosphonate, triallyl phosphate, and cyanurate, glyceryl trimethacrylate, their equivalent close homologues, and mixtured thereof, then subsequently exposing the intimately mixed polymer and monomer to a field of high energy radiation, particularly high energy electrons, until the polymer is cross-linked by the polyfunctional monomer.ALSO:Cross-linked polymers are prepared by intimately incorporating in a hydrocarbon olefine polymer, particularly polyethylene or polypropylene, a polyfunctional monomer selected from divinyl benzene, the mono-, di-, tri- and tetra-ethylene glycol diacrylates and dimethacrylates, vinyl acrylate, vinyl methacrylate, allyl acrylate, allyl methacrylate, the divinyl ether of diethylene glycol, diallyl maleate, itaconate and maleate, diallyl benzene phosphonate, triallyl phosphate and cyanurate, glyceryl trimethacrylate, their equivalent close homologues, and mixtures thereof, then subsequently exposing the intimately mixed polymer and monomer to a field of high energy radiation, particularly high energy electrons, until the polymer is cross-linked by the polyfunctional monomer.
