Abstract
843,875. Measuring radio-activity. PHILLIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 13, 1958 [March 16, 1957], No. 8098/58. Class 40(3). [Also in Group XL(a)] A Geiger M³ller counting tube comprising an envelope, at least half of which consists of a material having a specific resistance between 10<SP>7</SP> and 10<SP>12</SP> # cm. and which is formed with a re-entrant part, and a filling of a rare gas and at least 0.001% of a halogen, is disposed, as shown, in a liquid, or in a mixture of liquid and solid materials, for measuring the radioactivity thereof. An electrode 21 is disposed in contact with the liquid surrounding the tube and a further electrode, which may be in the form of a coating 18 on the glass envelope of the tube, is disposed in contact with liquid in the re-entrant part of the tube, the pulses obtained across a resistor 51 being supplied via a capacitor 23 to a counting device 24.
