Abstract

Vinyl resins such as polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl butyral, polyvinyl chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate are pigmented with polychlorinated copper phthalocyanine pigment containing 13 to 16 chlorine atoms per molecule, the pigment particles being coated with a water-immiscible liquid monomeric organic ester of an inorganic or organic polybasic acid. In an example (6) an asbestos-vinyl tile is made from a composition containing titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, dioctyl phthalate, asbestos filler, calcined clay, normal lead salicylate, stabilizers, calcium stearate, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate and the phthalocyanine pigment coated with butyl benzyl phthalate. Specifications 380,431, 380,851, and 470,181 are referred to.ALSO:Polychlorinated copper phthalocyanine pigment containing 13 to 16 chlorine atoms per molecule is conditioned by admixing the chlorination mass in which the pigment is made with an aqueous medium in the presence of at least about 5% based on the weight of the pigment, of a water-immiscible liquid monomeric organic ester of an inorganic or organic polybasic acid, said ester having a boiling point of at least about 150 DEG C., and then separating the pigment particles coated with said ester from the aqueous phase. The chlorination is conducted by known methods. The pigment is used to colour plastics. Specifications 380,431, 380,851 and 470,181 are referred to.
