Abstract

Aluminium or aluminium alloy foil is treated to remove surface oxidation before use by etching in a solution of from 10 to 15% nitric acid and 5 to 15% hydrofluoric acid. The foil is then used to unite glass, or glass and metal parts by heat and pressure before appreciable surface oxidation can again occur.
