Abstract

A composition for etching metal surfaces, e.g. aluminium, tantalum or zirconium, comprises 15 parts hydrofluoric acid, 45 parts hydrochloric acid, 15 parts nitric acid and 25 parts water, all parts by volume. The surface is then anodized, (see Group XXXXVI), and in the case of aluminium, coated with a transparent film of gold by evaporation in vacuo. The surface is then varnished.
