Abstract

A thermoplastic composition comprises a mixture of 70 to 90 parts of (a) a copolymer of 90 to 60 parts alpha-methylstyrene and 10 to 40 parts acrylonitrile with 30 to 10 parts of (b) a rubbery copolymer of 20 to 70 parts of alphamethylstyrene and 80 to 30 parts of a diolefin on to 100 parts of which rubbery copolymer there have been grafted by polymerization 5 to 70 parts of acrylic or methacrylic ester or a mixture thereof with alpha-methyl styrene or acrylonitrile, or of a mixture of alpha-methyl styrene with acrylonitrile. Butadiene is the specified diolefin, and methyl, ethy, butyl and ethylhexyl acrylates and methacrylates the specified esters. The composition may contain also a liquid plasticizer e.g. up to 30% of the product of dimerization of alph-methyl styrene, or of the phthalates of higher alcohols. The products are suitable for injection and compression moulding and extrusion.
