Abstract
The invention comprises alkoxymethylenenitroacetates of formula: <FORM:0842797/IV(b)/1> where R is a C1-5 alkyl radical and A is a C1-5 alkyl radical or a benzyl radical, A being optionally substituted, e.g. by nitro. They are prepared by reacting a nitroacetate AOOC.CH2.NO2 with an orthoformic ester HC(OR)3, preferably in the presence of a condensing agent such as acetic anhydride. Heat may be applied. Examples describe the preparation of benzyl a -ethoxymethylenenitroacetate and n-butyl a -ethoxymethylenenitroacetate and the reaction of the latter with aniline to form an anil.
