Abstract
842,328. Typewriters. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Nov. 14, 1956 [Nov. 17, 1955], No. 34812/56. Class 100(4) A single element printing head 2, comprises a post 3, Fig. 5, which supports a yoke 16 and arms 18, 20, which accommodate pins 22a, 24a. The latter form an axis for block 26. On rotation, shaft 30, which passes through a bore 32, tilts a block 26, and, with it, a character shell 9, through gear sectors 38, 36. A shaft 50, which passes through a bore 52 of the shaft 30, turns a tube 78 through a dumb-bell 54, and pins 56, 68, the shell 9 being attached to the tube 78 by a screw 79. To ensure alignment of a character with the printing position detent mechanism is provided. During rotation a spring loaded ball 82 engages sockets 80 inside the shell 9, and, as the head tilts a spring-loaded ball 92 engages teeth 91 of a plate 88 attached to block 26. Shafts 30, 50 are turned by pulleys. Fig. 6 shows a second embodiment. A shaft 110 tilts the head about 108 through gears 112, 114. A shaft 120 turns a shell 136 through a gear 122, idler 124 and bevel gear 126. Specification 842,327 is referred to.
