Abstract

842,307. Impedance matching. MULLARD Ltd. Nov. 3, 1958, No. 35209/58. Class 40(8). A H.F. transmission line junction comprises a section 1 of rectangular hollow waveguide and a section or sections 2, 8 of coaxial line arranged perpendicularly thereto, the junction being provided with means inhibiting the flow of resonant currents, at a predetermined frequency, in the outer conductors 3, 8 of the coaxial line comprising three or more L-shaped slots, one limb 15, 25 of each slot extending along the outer conductor 3, 8 of the coaxial lines and the other limb 5 of each slot extending in the wall of the waveguide 1, and the limbs 5, 15 being substantially one-quarter or an odd multiple of one-quarter of a wavelength long at the predetermined frequency of the resonant currents. Radio-frequency energy-absorbing material 9 can be arranged against the outsides of the slots and can be in the form of iron-loaded synthetic resin enclosed by metal casings 10 making electrical contact with the waveguide 1 and the conductors 3 and 8. Two coaxial lines can extend one from each of two opposite walls of the waveguide and the slots can be provided at the junction of one or each, as shown, of the lines and the waveguide. In the drawings the second coaxial line is in the form of a choke comprising a central member 7 in an outer conductor 8 coaxial with the line 2. The waveguide I is terminated in an end wall 6 forming a short-circuit stub.
