Abstract
841,904. Endless tracks for vehicles. EST ETABLISSEMENT SCIENCES TECHNIQUES. Oct. 9, 1957, No. 31586/57. Class 79(1). A roller rotatable about an axis parallel to the plane of the track of a track-laying vehicle and associated with each segment of a rolling device is mounted with slight clearance on a spindle so that the roller is braked by friction, when the vehicle moves transversely across a slope; the clearance being such that the movement produced by friction is less than the maximum movement urging the roller to rotate due to a change in the direction of motion of the vehicle. The rolling device is similar to that described in Specification 756,078 and comprises a roller with a tread 2 of rubber or similar material with an inner sleeve 3 which is a friction fit on the spindle 1. Alternatively the friction surfaces may be conical, on the ends of the spindle, as at 5, or on a keyed-on ring as at 5', 5" in Fig. 3. Various forms of reinforced roller are described. In Fig. 10 the roller takes the form of a pneumatic tire 19 on a bushing 18 with a rubber or similar friction pad 12 interposed between it and the spindle 15.
