Abstract

841,409. Optical apparatus. NATIONAL LABORATORIES & MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. March, 27, 1958 [April 26, 1957], No. 9902/58. Class 97(1) Apparatus for observing opposite sides of a moving strip comprises two rotating mirror drums, on to each of which light is reflected from the strip by a mirror, the mirror drum being rotated in synchronization with the strip movement. A rocking mirror is associated with each mirror drum so that each side of the strip would be seen by a viewer looking into both rocking mirrors. As shown in Fig. 2, each side of the moving strip 15 is illuminated by lamps 24 and the light therefrom is reflected by mirrors 16, 17 through units 28, 29 to an observer at 20. Each unit may be as described in Specification 754,026 and comprise a mirror drum 32, Fig. 3, which is rotated in synchronism with the movement of the strip, and has associated therewith a rocking mirror 59. An observer of the two mirrors 59 may see a stationary image of each side of the strip. Each mirror 59 is clamped to a rigid member 61 carrying a cam roller 71, which is resiliently pressed against the hub of the associated mirror drum, the latter being geared at 49 to a selsyn motor 53 connected to another selsyn motor driven in synchronization with the drive for the strip 15.
