Abstract
841,064. Magnetic amplifiers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and GLOVER, B. W. Sept. 24, 1958 [Sept. 24, 1957], No. 30008/57. Class 40 (9). A full-wave magnetic amplifier with a load 18 Fig. 1, comprises two half-wave resetting amplifiers with cores 1, 2 and 3, 4. The reset windings 9, 10 on cores 1, 2 are connected in series and rectifier gates 31, 32 in a switch 23 controlled by the power supply on terminals 35, interrupt the circuit in the half periods in which setting current is not required. The two output windings 5, 6 are balanced by potentiometer 39 to give zero output with zero control signal. The second half-wave amplifier comprising cores 3, 4 is arranged in a similar manner. The control signal is applied to terminals 20 as a modulation of the supply frequency. Phase reversal of the control signal reverses the direct current in the load 18. The alternating currents supplied to terminals 16, 20, 35 are all of the same frequency but they may differ in phase. In a modification, Fig. 2, the direct current output in load 40 is controlled in magnitude and direction by a direct current control signal on terminals 20. The output circuits of the half-wave amplifier are interrupted in the appropriate half-periods by a switch 45 like switch 23. The circuits of Figs. 1 and 2 may be modified to respond to direct current signals and alternating current signals respectively. The amplifiers shown in Figs. 1 and 2 may be connected in cascade.
