Abstract
In an electrostatic centrifugal distributer, the paint, in use, is supplied to a revolving distributer plate and flows to the perimeter thereof, where it is projected in a charged and atomized state, the plate perimeter not lying in a circle centred on the axis of revolution. The plate may be rectangular or six-sided, e.g. in the form of a parallelogram having the corners joined by the longer diagonal cut away, or it may be formed from a dished disc, side parts of which have been cut away. The shorter sides may be bent out of the plane of the plate, and may be grooved. As shown in Fig. 1, a rectangular plate 20 is mounted for rotation on a shaft 24, and is connected to one side of a high-voltage generator 30, the other side being connected to the support 32 for the articles to be coated. As shown in Fig. 8, a pump rotor 100 <PICT:0840152/III/1> <PICT:0840152/III/2> may be attached to the shaft 24 and distribute paint, supplied through a pipe 110, to a well 22 in the plate 20, from which it flows by centrifugal force to the periphery; alternatively, the shaft 24 may be made hollow, and provided with passages at its lower end, paint being supplied down the centre of the shaft. The passages may be so arranged as to aid in giving the paint a desired distribution over the surface of the plate. The distributer may be caused to reciprocate along the direction of its axis of rotation, which may be other than vertical, or to swing about a given point.
