Abstract

839,524. Tubeless pneumatic tyres. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. March 18, 1958 [July 19, 1957], No. 8633/58. Class 144 (2). A tubeless pneumatic tyre 1 with or without an air-impervious liner and mounted on a wheel rim 6 has means in the tyre cavity for selectively removing the oxygen from the inflation air whereby oxidation of the rubber plies of the tyre is prevented. The oxygen removing means may comprise boiled linseed oil, an unsaturated polymeric material such as polybutadiene, unstabilized synthetic rubber such as butadienestyrene copolymer, acetone extracted natural rubber, or drying oils such as tung oil and divinyl acetylene, and may comprise a coating 9 on the inside of the tyre or a coating 10 on the surface of the rim 10.
