Abstract
839,409. Kinematograph cameras. BELL & HOWELL CO. Nov. 14, 1957 [June 3, 1957], No. 35499/57. Class 97(1) A kinematograph camera has upper and lower film loop formers which are independently retracted upon replacement of a removable camera cover. The kinematograph camera shown in Fig. 2 has a claw-feed mechanism and during loading a film is led from a supply spool to a constant speed sprocket 65 on which it is held by rollers 76, 77 on a pivoted frame. This sprocket feeds the film past fixed guide 70 to a loop forming member 89 and thence through the film gate to a further loop forming member 88 back to the sprocket on which it is pressed by rollers 76, 77 in another pivoted frame and thence to the take-up spool. Each loopforming member is spring-urged to its loop-forming position and has a part 106, Fig. 4, engaged by a slidable plunger 110 which is moved by closure of the camera casing 12 so as to remove the loop-former out of the film path. To further facilitate film threading, the end of the film may be cut on a bias by a cutter comprising an upright blade and an inclined blade which are arranged to meet along inclined cutting edges (Figs. 12, 13, not shown). The film is pressed against the gate, as shown in Fig. 5, by a pressure shoe 46 carried by a cup 51 and pressed against the film by a light spring 52 between the cup and a pin 54 which engages a fixed abutment 48. A heavier spring 55 bears against cup 51 and a sleeve 56 through which pin 54 projects, this sleeve being clamped on the cup by nut 58. This pressure shoe arrangement is bodily removable from the apparatus by a handle 47.
