Abstract

839,250. Making girders. BRITISH REFRASIL CO. Ltd. Aug. 2, 1956 [May 3, 1955], No. 34121/59. Divided out of 839,249. Class 83(2). A stiffening or reinforcing member for stiffening a flexible structure, e.g. a heatinsulating blanket or panel, and adapted to maintain said structure in a predetermined curved form comprises a lattice girder member 10 consisting of a lattice element 11 of, e.g. stainless steel, flexible in a longitudinal plane of said element having secured along one of its longitudinally extending edges a flexible strip 13 forming one flange of said girder member and a separate flexible strip member 16 intended to be fixedly secured to the other longitudinal edge of the lattice element 11 when the latter is in its predetermined form, the assembled lattice element and strips being locked rigidly together in the desired contour when said separate strip member 16 is fixedly secured to said other edge of the lattice element as a flange (Fig. 3) to form the reinforcing member. The edges of the strip 13 are folded back on to the strip with the lattice element abutting the folded back edge and spot-welded to the strip at the crests 14 of the corrugations.
