Abstract
839,222. Centrifugal driers. JACKSON INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 23, 1959 [Feb. 4, 1958], No. 3573/58. Class 34(2) The lid 2 of a spin drier is locked in position while the drum (not shown) is rotating by a pivoted vane D having a tongue C which moves to engage a slot B in a block A beneath the lid under the air pressure generated by rotation of the drum. The drier motor is operated by a mechanism wherein closure of the lid closes a section of the motor circuit by a plunger N on the block A, which closes a movable contact E mounted on a movable contact arm with a fixed contact E1. Electrical connection is made from the fixed contact E1 by a resistance wire 6 wound around a bimetallic strip F and terminating at a contact G attached to the free end of the strip F. A pivotally-mounted member H is biased on a disengaged position (shown dotted) by a spring 7 until a starter button J is depressed to force the member H to engage the contact G to complete the motor circuit from terminals K, L which are connected in series with the motor and so start the motor. The resistance wire 6 is then in series with the motor and heats the bimetallic strip 7 until the strip flexes after a predetermined period of time to disengage the member H from the contact G, thus breaking the circuit and stopping the motor. A stop button M is also provided to disengage the member H from contact G to break the circuit.
