Abstract

838,971. Controllers; control of motors; fluid actuation of switches. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. March 8, 1957 [March 10, 1956; Oct. 18, 1956], No. 7767/57. Classes 38 (3) and 38 (5). [Also in Group XXIX] In a traction or like system, a plurality of heavy-current contacts are each actuated individually by means of a separate hydraulic piston which is, in turn, operated by energizing an electromagnet. As shown, a tappet 5 is coupled by linkage 101 to a movable part of a contact element. A channel 107 supplies oil under pressure to an annular chamber 108 which is connected to a control chamber 110. A control slide 111 comprises iron core 112 which is actuated by electromagnet 11 opposed by spring 115. When the electromagnet is energized (at one of the positions provided on a control drum) the core 112 is moved towards the right so that oil is supplied to the under-side of tappet 5 which is raised as a result, a discharge opening 118 being closed at this time. If, in the further course of the control operation, the electromagnet is de-energized, the control slide is returned by spring 115, the discharge opening 118 is opened, and the contact element is operated in reverse. The oil pressure may be maintained substantially constant by means of an accumulator associated with a spring-loaded piston, or separate small accumulators may be associated with each of the individual contacts. The electromagnets 11 and associated structural elements, together with their control valves, each form a uniform unit, a number of which may be mounted on a common base. The tappets are actuated in a desired sequence by means of the control drum. In a modification, a single electromagnet serves for the control of a plurality of tappets, a first tappet being actuated electromagnetically and, on reaching a predetermined position, allowing access of the oil to other tappets. Thus, when the electromagnet 11 is energized to move the tappet 21 upwardly, a control edge A is raised above a passage 126 whereby oil passes into chamber 129. This chamber is in communication through passages 130, 131, with the space below tappet 22 which is likewise raised and actuates its associated switch. When tappet 22 has completed its upward movement, the passage 128 is opened so that pressure oil enters chamber 134 through passages 126, 128 from whence it is conveyed to other tappets.
