Abstract

838,917. Electric heating resistors. SIEMENSPLANIAWERKE AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT FUR KOHLEFABRIKATE. Jan. 24,1958 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 2508/53. Class 39(3) A heating conductor for use in an electric furnace comprises a heating portion formed as a loop which is incandescent when the conductor is in use, the ends of the conductor which serve for connection to a source of electric power being mechanically connected together by an electrically insulating member and the conductor being formed in one piece as a tube composed of a compound or compounds of silicon with an element or elements of the fourth to sixth group of the Periodic System. As shown, Figs. 1, 4 and 5 a tubular heating conductor has a heating loop 1 andi thickened contact portions 3 which are mechanically connected by an insulating member 2, 2<SP>1</SP> or 2<SP>11</SP>, and which are connected to supply cables. The loop 1 may be held by a support 7<SP>1</SP> or 7". In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 the arms of the tubular heating loop 1 which lead to the contact portion are each supported by an insulated half-tube 12, a suporting member 14 being introduced into the loop to form a core and the loop being formed with a longitudinal slit 8 to allow the escape of gases generated in the loop.
