838,796. Crimping yarns. TEXTURED YARN CO. Inc. Jan. 23, 1958 [Jan. 23, 1957], No. 2345/58. Class 120(3) Multifilament yarn of polymeric organic material which has been "helically crimped" (as by twisting, or false-twisting, and setting) is subjected to further crimping, normally without heating, in a stuffer- or compression-crimping apparatus in order to impose irregularity of crimp characteristics and/or reduce "helical liveliness" or residual torque and stretch properties, and to increase bulk and crimp-recovery. As shown, "helicallycrimped "yarn 20 is fed continuously over a block 7, through the nip of driven stuffer rolls 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, into a tube 5 wherein the accumulating yarn is compressed: compositely crimped yarn 30 emerges, on overcoming the resistance of a spring-loaded, pivoted cover 15.
