Abstract

838,119. Belt gearing. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 20, 1958 [June 27, 1957], No. 20266/57. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXX] A device for indicating the slip between a pulley, drum or the like and a rope or belt passing around it, particularly applicable to a mine hoist, comprises a roller 14 rotatably mounted on a bracket 13 on the pulley periphery and engaging the side of the rope or belt 10. This roller is geared to a contact arm 19 which co-operates with a stationary contact ring 20. If there is no slip between the rope and pulley there is no movement of the contact arm 19 but on slip occurring the arm 19 is moved to engage the ring 20 and complete a circuit to operate a relay. The relay may operate an indicating device such as a lamp or buzzer or a stopping mechanism for a mine hoist. Two or more of these devices may be arranged around the drum or pulley and two fixed contacts rings may be provided to indicate the direction of slip.
