Abstract

A sheet of material having a paper-like texture and for use as writing or wrapping material is obtained from a linear polypropylene by evaporation, at 100-160 DEG C., of the solvent from a layer of solution of the polymer in a petroleum hydrocarbon or fraction boiling at 100-250 DEG C. Solutions in tetrahydronaphthalene, petroleum fractions and decane are specified, and titania may also be present. As supports for the solutions, oriented polypropylene sheet or sheets of glass or metal may be used. In examples the products are quenched in water. Applications specified are as maps, books, packing material and cable insulation.
