837,404. Television. SOC. FRANCAISE FRIGEAVIA. Dec. 23, 1958 [Feb. 6, 1958; Aug. 19, 1958], No. 41558/58. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XL (c)] A casing for a television receiver picture tube 10 comprises two half shells 1, 2 assembled along a horizontal plane of division and a front closure window 5, the tube being carried inside the casing by a cradle 9 on which it is held by a belt 12, and the lower half of the casing also being secured to the cradle. The two half shells are formed with flanges 1a, 2a, Fig. 3, and are secured together by a flexible encircling strip 3 which is tensioned at each end over a projecting boss 1c, 2c. The window 5 is held between two frames 6 and 7 which are secured by glueing, elements disposed over or through the edges of the half shells, or by the interfitting of the two half shells. The cradle 9 is secured to a hinge 15a, 15b which is in turn secured to a short tube 17 which can pivot on a sleeve 18 carried, for example, by the upper part of a television receiver. The arrangement permits the casing to be swivelled about a vertical axis (tube 17) and inclined about a horizontal axis (hinge pin 16), the latter motion being regulated by a double-threaded spindle 24 engaging lugs 21 and 23 secured respectively to tube 17 and half shell 2. The supply lead 25 for the tube extends through tube 17. Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) illustrate a second embodiment in which the upper half shell is detachably hooked to the lower half shell at the rear and the two halves brought together, with the interposition of a flexible masking member to hide the join, and secured by a window masking frame which fits over the front edges of the shells. The shells are preferably moulded from polyester resin reinforced with glass fibre and include wire gauze which acts as both a reinforcement and an electric screen.
