Abstract

A liquid alkyd or polyester resin made by reacting sebacic acid, phthalic anhydride, castor oil and glycerine, as described in Example 1 of Specification 810,839, is mixed with toluene di-isocyanate, dinitrosopentamethylene tetramine and phosphoric acid to yield a solid foamed resin having a bright yellow colour.ALSO:In making a solid foamed resin, a liquid alkyd or polyester resin and a liquid polyisocyanate, e.g. toluene di-isocyanate, are mixed with two additional substances, which are inert to them but react together with the evolution of a gas. The mixture, which is bright yellow in colour, is poured into a mould and allowed to set. The alkyd or polyester resin may be the product of a reaction between sebacic acid, phthalic anhydride, castor oil and glycerine, described in Example 1 of Specification 810,839. One additional substance specified is dinitrosopentamethylene tetramine, which is preferably dispersed in the polyisocyanate, e.g. with the acid of finely divided silica: the other additional substance specified is concentrated phosphoric acid, which is preferably dispersed in the alkyd or polyester resin.
