Abstract

In a process for preparing melamine-toluenesulphonamide-formaldehyde resins by fusing the reactants together, the reaction mixture is spread in the form of a shallow layer free from mechanical agitation in an amount not exceeding 5.4 gm/cm2, at least after the initial molten mass has attained a viscosity not exceeding 100 poises at the reaction temperature. The reactants may be spread in a layer before fusion. A colouring ingredient may be incorporated into the reactant mixture. In the examples resins are formed from mixtures of melamine, paraformaldehyde, o- and p-toluenesulphonamide, and a Rhodamine dye. The solid, fusible resins are ground to give pigments.
