Abstract
837,149. Sound receiving and transmitting devices. SIEMENS EDISON SWAN Ltd. Nov. 19, 1958 [Dec. 6, 1957], No. 38059/57. Class 40 (4). In a telephone instrument of the balanced ring armature type in which the magnetic structure includes annular magnetic members defining pole faces in the air gap between which the armature is disposed, each such annular magnetic member 1 has a cylindrical portion 2 around the outer surface of which is moulded a radially outwardly facing channel 4 of insulating material constituting a bobbin for accommodating a magnetizing coil (not shown). As shown, the member 1 also has an outwardly extending flange 3 which is recessed at 3a to receive the side wall 4a of the channel 4. The channel 4 is formed of a mouldable insulating material such as polystyrene by injection moulding, injection being through apertures 7 in the member 1 which are ultimately filled with the insulating material to key the channel 4 against rotation relatively to the member 1. Axial keying is achieved by the provision of circumferential grooves 6 (or ridges) on the outer surface of portion 2. The member 1 may be formed by pressing the inner circular portion 2<1> (Fig. 4) of a flat disc 1<1> stamped from magnetic sheet material to form the cylindrical portion 2, the outer annular portion 3<1> of the disc 1<1> constituting the flange 3.
