Abstract
839,722. Sound receiving and transmitting devices. SIEMENS EDISON SWAN Ltd. Nov. 19, 1958 [Dec. 6, 1957], No. 38063/57. Class 40 (4). In a balanced ring armature transducer an acoustic tuning plug 16, comprising a generally cylindrical portion 16a formed with a number of through apertures 17 between its opposite ends, is fitted within an inner cylindrical surface of one of the annular polepieces 2, the end of the plug 16 nearer the diaphragm 5 being spaced therefrom to define between the plug and the diaphragm an air cavity bounded by the cylindrical surface and having an acoustical tuning determined inter alia by the number, size and length of the apertures 17. The transducer shown incorporates insulating bobbins 4 moulded on to the annular polepieces 2 as described in Specification 837,149 and has its diaphragm 5 clamped between washer-like members 6 as described in Specification 838,159. The magnetic structure is resiliently mounted inside the casing 7 by means of annular rubber washers 8, a screen 11 and a moisture-proof membrane 12 being clamped between the upper washers 8, adjacent the apertures 9 in.the top of the casing 7. Sleeving 14 insulates the joined ends 3a of the series windings 3 from the terminals 15. The plug 16, which may be of moulded polystyrene, is a close fit in the polepiece 2 and its spacing from the diaphragm 5 is determined by engagement between a radial flange 16b on the plug 16 and the surface of the polepiece 2 remote from the diaphragm 5.
