Abstract

836,850. Joint-making packing. RAZDOW, A. Sept. 17, 1957 [Sept. 18, 1956], No. 29182/57. Class 122 (3). [Also in Group XVIII] A container sealing arrangement comprises a hollow closed pressurized metal tube 9 having a wall thickness of not more than 0.006 inch and a coating 12, 12<2> of malleable material which may be either on the tube, Fig. 1, or on the faces of the container engaged by the tube, Fig. 2. The coating may be of silicone rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, polymers of trifluorochloroethylene or soft metals such as copper, silver or gold or alloys thereof. The tube 9 may be of cold rolled or stainless steel, copper, &c., and the fluid 10 in the tube is preferably inert gas, for example nitrogen or helium or a mixture thereof, at a pressure preferably between 600 and 1500 pounds per square inch. This pressure may be obtained by any known means, e.g. by injecting into the tube a small amount of liquid gas at low temperature or a chemical in its solid state which when heated produces gas at the required pressure. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 the tube having a filling opening 11 is disposed in a container 13 to which gas is fed until the required pressure is reached, the opening 11 is then closed by brazing by means of an electric heating coil 16 and when the tube has cooled the pressure is released from the container and the closed pressurized tube removed.
