Abstract

836,271. Transformers. SMIT & CO.'S TRANSFORMATORENFABRIEK N.V., W. Dec. 13, 1957 [Dec. 18, 1956], No. 38903/57. Class 38 (2). In a H.V. transformer protection against shock waves is derived from one or more screens 5a, 6a, 5b, 6b, in the form of a flanged cylinder disposed between windings or winding layers, each screen being formed from two conductive layers separated by insulation and interconnected by a metal strip 15, the flanges being cut to form strips 10 which are disposed so that the strips of one conductive layer overlie the spaces between strips in the other layer. The cylindrical part of the screens may also be formed as overlapping strips 12. The conductive layers may be metal or graphite paper, which may be spotted with zinc to provide good electrical contact with the strip 15. The strip 15 may have lateral slots to provide flexibility.
