Abstract

836,089. Photographic silver halide emulsions. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. April 1, 1958 [May 1, 1957], No. 10471/58. Class 98(2) Photographic silver halide emulsions sensitized with polyoxyalkylene compounds of molecular weight at least 282 contain as antifoggant a monohydric phenol having an ortho- or meta-hydrocarbon substituent but no other substituents, and a total of at last 9 carbon atoms. The hydrocarbon substituent may be isopropyl, t-butyl, sec-amyl, t-amyl, t-octyl, n-nonyl, n-dodecyl, cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, naphthyl, biphenyl, benzyl, α-cumyl or naphthylmethyl. The polyoxyalkyline compound may be a condensation product of an alkyline oxide with a glycol fatty acid, aliphatic amine or hexitol ring dehydration product. Preferred compounds are polyethylene oxides and condensation products of ethylene oxide with oleyl alcohol. The emulsions may contain chemical sensitizers, optical sensitizing dyes and other antifoggants.
