Abstract
835,520. Injection moulding tubular articles. COMPAGNIE DE PONT-A-MOUSSON. April 30, 1958 [May 24, 1957], No. 13689/58. Class 87(2). In moulding a tubular article, e.g. a pipe union A, Fig. 1, plastic material e.g. polyvinyl chloride, is injected through an annular aperture 18 into a heated mould 6 having a heated core 10, and after the mould has been filled, the part of the core 10 near the inlet 18 is kept hot and the rest of the core is cooled, and further material is injected into the mould to fill the space caused by shrinkage due to cooling. As shown, two cores 10, 11 having centring flanges 12, 12a are used,. the end 14 of the core 11 fitting into a lateral recess 13 in the core 10. The cores 10, 11 have electric heating elements 20, 21 respectively which can be cut out by switches 1 1 , 1 2 to permit cooling by cold water or other fluid supply pipes 23, 23a. Electric heaters 19, 25 are provided for the mould 6 and injection plunger 24. A ring portion 15 is slidable on a reduced diameter portion of the core 10. An end member 17 fitting on to a spigot 16 on the core 10 may be part-spherical or conical in shape. In a modification (not shown) injection is effected through the part of the mould containing the core 11.
