Abstract
The invention comprises tetraethyl-, tetraisopropyl-, and tetrabutyl-thiuram trisulphides. These and other tetra-C1-4 alkyl thiuram trisulphides and tetra-cycloalkyl thiouram trisulphides are prepared by reacting the alkali metal salts of the corresponding di-C1-4 alkyl and dicycloalkyl dithiocarbamic acids with sulphur dichloride.ALSO:Thiuram trisulphides of the formula R1R11N.CS.SSS.CS.NR1R11 in which R1 and R11 are C1-4 alkyl groups or cycloalkyl groups, or are joined to form a pentamethylene group, alone or in conjunction with tellurium diethyl dithiocarbamate or blends of tetramethyl thiuram disulphide and mercaptobenzothiazole, are added as accelerators to vulcanizable butyl rubber compositions.
