Abstract
834,756. Gravity switches. BLACKBURN GROUP Ltd., [formerly BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT Ltd.], and MULLENEUX, P. A. June 20, 1958, No. 19841/58. Class 38 (5). A gravity-controlled switch device suitable for aircraft comprises a short cylindrical casing 1 closed at each end (Fig. 2, not shown) by a plate carrying a mass 6 and pivot arm 5 which can move about a central pivot between stops 7, 8, movement towards stop 8 being damped by a rod 9 and tube 10, and causing a microswitch 11 to be actuated by a lever 12 with a roller 13 engaging the arm 5. The components of each plate form mirror images, one of the other about a vertical line through the coaxial pivots, and the two microswitches are connected in series in a controlled circuit, so that a substantially complete inversion of the device is necessary to cause both masses to move, each thereby actuating its microswitch to complete the controlled circuit. Acceleration causes only one mass to move and hence the circuit is not completed.
